Iron Horse take first final

Iron Horse won the first cup final of the season by beating Eldon Arms 5-1 in a very competitive game in which both sides enjoyed long periods of dominance. The difference was that the aycliffe side took the chances that came their way. They took the lead after 90 seconds through Hanson but Eldon Arms rallied and had two of the best chances of the match before Hanson struck again. Winkworth then pulled one back for the Ferryhill side but it was Anderson who got the all important goal just before half time. In the second half Eldon pushed hard to try and get back into the game but another goal from Anderson and one more, to complete his hat trick, for Hanson, was enough to give the Iron Horse the trophy. The trophy, which commemorates the tragic death, whilst playing in the league, of Kelvin Macintosh, was presented to captain Chase McMullen by Jill Henderson of Croxdale
In the league the first division title race came to a conclusion when Masons Arms and Quinns drew 1-1. This meant Masons Arms could no longer catch them and Quinns claimed the first division title after finishing runners up last season.. Louis Whensley was the scorer of the Quinns goal and Marc Costello netted for Masons Arms.
Results from Thursday’s games meant Tudhoe claimed a place in the semi final of the Paul Stevens Trophy, thanks to a very late winner from Paul Leadbitter, against Browney, and now meet Masons Arms on Thursday 8th May. Horse Shoe progressed 6-1 against Southern Club and now face Quinns, who overcame a plucky Cricket Club 5-2 on the same night.
This Sunday sees Masons Arms and Quinns meeting in the J & A Final at Coxhoe then both sides return 24 hours later for the first division final.
