There were several surprises in the other first round ties played with third beating second. Cobblers Hall scored 3 without reply through Watson, Nichols and Starling at Shildon Ath, and Three Tuns beat Victoria 8-3. New Brancepeth had a few scares before overcoming a gallant Black Bull side with Hicks, Morgan and Marccieco netting for Bull and P. Wilkinson, (2), Burns, Hindmarch and C. Wilkinson for Brancepeth. Iron Horse had no such problems against Southern Club winning comfortably 9-3. Salvins staged a late comeback against first division Browney but lost 5-3. Quinns, though fielding a depleted side were still too strong for Tudhoe with a 5-1 victory. Cricket Club went nap against a struggling George & Dragon netting seven goals without reply. Goals from Millward, Lamb, Mullen (2) and a hat trick from Adrian Brown sent the cricketers into the next round. The remaining tie was a top of the table clash between Half Moon, who are top of division two, and Shildon Fox, who are third, and it was the leaders who came out on top 4-1 with 2 apiece from Bayles and Tinkler and Lumley scoring for Fox.
In the only league game played Bin. S. C. took advantage and moved into third place in division one after a 3-0 win at Voltigeur, Furber, Pickles and Wheatley on the score sheet. In the last qualifying round of the county cup Horse Shoe played host to league rivals Masons Arms and the first division side came away with a narrow 2-1 win. Eldon Arms had a good 1-0 home win against Blackhall O.B. but Fox & Hounds were heavily beaten, 11-1at Hartlepool Supporters Athletic. Fixtures for Sun 28th Oct Div 1 Bin. S.
