Fox take derby honours
Local derbies are normally very close games and when Shildon Fox played host to neighbours Shildon Ath. this proved to be the case, fox winning 2-1.
Brown and Roberts were on target for fox and Horan replied for Athletic. “We expected a close game and that’s what we got” said fox secretary Dave Owen. “They are a young side compared to ours and they never stopped running and chasing the whole game and it wasn’t until the last few minutes that we finally got the winner.” That win moves them into third place just ahead of Athletic on goal difference. Half Moon stay top after beating Victoria 4-1. Eldon Arms and Iron Horse shared nine goals and Eldon led 4-2 with ten minutes left but three late goals gave all three points to Iron Horse. Eldon secretary Paul McGeary was full of praise for the Aycliffe side. “They pass the ball fantastic and the fact we were down to 10 men was no excuse as I think they would have won it if we had had 14 men on the pitch!” Megran (2), Hanson, Duff and De Luca for Iron horse and Robson and Gilyeat (3) for Eldon the scorers. A struggling Hogans lost 6-0 to Green Tree. In the other game in the second division Cricket Club gained their first win of the season 4-2 over Salvins.

The top two in division three both lost to open up the chase for promotion. Southern Club lost 4-3 at home to Market Tavern and Fox & Hounds went down 7-4 to Black Bull. Brown (4), Morgan (2) and Bowron scored and Hart (2), Airey and Fearman replied for fox. Bay Horse moved into second thanks to a 5-1 win over George & Dragon. Goals from Scott Walton, Jamie Walton, Barnes, Barron and “deadly” Doug Grant secured the points, Johnson scoring for George & Dragon. Cobblers Hall moved out of the bottom two with a 6-3 win over bottom club EBAC.
