Fox leave it late Only four league games were played as most teams were on County Cup duty. In Division 2, leaders Shildon Fox left it late before overcoming a plucky Victoria side. With fifteen minutes to go Fox found themselves 4-3 down but ended up winning 8-4 thanks to goals from Brown (3), S. Hall, K. Hall, Tweddle, Bell and Breckin. Victoria scorers were Greenland (2), Tyler and Cunningham. This defeat leaves Victoria rooted to the bottom of the table. The only first division game to take place saw newly promoted New Brancepeth gain their first win of the season by defeating Lakeside, who have yet to win this season, 8-2. On the score sheet for New Brancepeth were Wilkinson (3), Hindmarch, Stewart Charlton Burns and an own goal from Dixon with Marram and Gray replying for Lakeside.
The closest games of the day came in Division 3 where George & Dragon drew with Cobblers Hall 2-2,thanks to goals from O’Neil (2). Mailer (2) netting for the Cobblers, and Southern Club gained their first points of the season by defeating an inconsistent Fox & Hounds 3-2. On target for southern were Hudson, Grant and Harrison. Walton and Airey getting the goals for fox.
Meanwhile the league had mixed results from the County Cup with leaders Masons Arms defeating Chester Le Street Whitehills 6-0. Quinns travelled to Sunderland Neyves Jewellers and came away 4-1 winners. Both Ferryhill teams had good wins with Div 2 side Eldon Arms beating a fancied Cumberland Arms Utd. 2-1 and Black Bull coming out 4-1 winners over Easington The Derby. Old Shildon had a good 3-0 victory over Horden Catholic Club and 3rd Division side Horse Shoe defeated West Auckland WMC 4-2. There were however defeats for Tin Donkey against Boldon FC, Shildon Ath at Washington Bird Inn, EBAC at Hartlepool, and Cricket Club at Washington Legends. Salvins lost at home 6-1 to Hurworth Albion, and Iron Horse managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, surrendered a 4-1 lead with 30 minutes to go to lose 5-4 to Hartlepool The Goldmine. Market Tavern also went down 3-1 to Burnhopefield Burton house despite having most of the play. Bay Horse were unlucky to lose 2-1 to a strong Wingate Fir Tree side and couldn’t convert the many chances they created and scored from a free kick from Dixon.
