Two-day cup delight for Browney
Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup Final

DIVISION TWO side Browney’s season just got better after they booked their second cup final of the season just two days after winning their first!

Already crowned the second division champions, Browney beat local rivals New Brancepeth 7-1 in the final of the Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup last Sunday to claim the double.

Scott Brydon (2), Stewart Kitching, Andrew Nicholson, Karl Turner, Phil Pouton and John Kidd were all on target for Browney in the final, while Philip Wilkinson scored for New Brancepeth.

Then on Tuesday this week, Browney eliminated Division One side Tudhoe United in the semi-finals of the Paul Stevens Trophy with a 4-2 win thanks to goals by Nicholson (3), Pouton and Kidd again.

“It’s already been a tremendous season for us,” said Browney boss Gerard Crooks. “If you’d have told me at the start of the season that we’d win 49 points out of 54 in the league I’d be over the moon.

“Then in the final we’ve beaten our local rivals and although I think the scoreline flattered us, it was still a massive win for us.

“But the win over Tudhoe was arguably our best performance of the season. I thought the lads would have been tired after the final on Sunday but even after we come under some pressure in the second half we stuck it out and probably deserved the win in the end.”
