MASONS ARMS WIN CLOSE FINAL Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League MASONS ARMS lifted the Second Division Cup with a slender 1-0 win in an extremely close game at Spennymoor United’s Brewery Field ground. Third-placed Voltigeur gave title-chasing Masons Arms a real run for their money. Despite hitting the post twice through Mark Hastewell and Phil Curry, a goal by Ian Crowe was enough to clinch the trophy. “It was hard work,” said manager John Booth. “It was very close and I have to admit probably lucky. They pressured us throughout the game but we have took our chance when it came along and that proved to be enough to win it, so we’re delighted.” Voltigeur manager Dean Mains said: “We’re gutted! I thought we did enough to win the game. We created plenty of chances but we’ve wasted them. We were probably the better side on the day, but it wasn’t our day so congratulations to Masons Arms.” Meanwhile, Masons Arms are in cup final action this Sunday (May 2) when they take on Old Shildon in the B&A Trophy Final at Spenny’s Brewery Field (kick-off 10.30am). The League Cup Final between Thorns and Loves will be played at Brewery Field on Sunday May 9.
