OLD SHILDON EDGE THIRD WIN OF SEASON
OLD SHILDON got their season back on track after a shaky start to the campaign.
Shildon kicked off their season with back-to-back wins over Eldon Arms (2-1) and the Penny Gill (3-0), but then lost two games on the trot at Masons Arms (2-1) and at home to Tudhoe United (2-1).
But the once title favourites edge a 2-0 win over Hogans with a goal either side of half-time last Sunday – Anthony Moss and Martin Hedley getting their names on the scoresheet.
And Dave Hedley is hoping their third win of the season can kick-start their season.
“It hasn’t been a great start for us,” he said. “We’ve got quite a few new faces and we’re hoping they’re just taking a few games to gel.
“But it was another close game for us and, although the wind spoiled the game, it was a good result for us.”

Elsewhere in Division One last week, Binchester Social Club won 7-1 at home to Browney thanks to goals by John Wheatley (3), Lee Furber (3) and Darren Kirkbride.
Masons Arms beat Lakeside 3-1 with goals by John Savage, Peter Kerr and Kevin Dodds, while Thorns won 2-1 at Penny Gill thanks to goals by Andrew Richardson and Martin Lonthorne.
Dale Anderson, David Tedder, Wayne Pratt and Stuart Fawcett were all on target for the Bay Horse as they won 4-0 at Eldon Arms.
The game between Tudhoe United and Voltigeur was postponed.

In Division Two last week, the result of the season so far came when Quinns hammered Horndale Celtic 21-0!
Striker John-Paul Tallentire did his scoring tally no harm whatsoever with four hat-tricks, while there was three apiece from Steven Quinn and Jonathan Dent. Andrew Spence, Lee Ellis and Phil White were also on the scoresheet.
Secretary Keith Brain said: “It was an unbelievable game, but to be fair they had a lot young lads playing and I think it was too much for them.”

Meanwhile, Croxdale won 4-1 at home Belvedere with goals by Gavin Bell, Craig Flowers, Iain Ambrosini and Kevin Hepburn.
Green Tree won 3-2 at home to Ash Tree with goals by Kevin Stamp, Martin Hutchinson and Andrew Appleton.
New Bracepeth won 10-1 at home to the Southern Club with goals by Gary Hindmarch (3), Anthony Holiday (2), Jimmy Gowthorpe (2), Keith Wilson, Neil Sweeney and Chris Jones.
George & Dragon beat Atlantic Bar 8-0 with goals by Nick Sleep (3), Darren Dodds, John Fleming, Gary George, Kyle Allen and Ian Fairless.
Victoria won 5-3 at Masons United thanks to goals by Jason Greenland, Gary Scott, John Templeton and James Smith. David Bush (2) and Steven Alderson scored for Masons.
Finally, Philippe Cortese was on target twice and Paul Bailes and Craig Moses once for Half Moon as they won 4-1 at North Briton.

• Six teams from the Spennymoor League have drawn each other in the first preliminary round of the Durham FA County Cup, which takes place this Sunday (4th September).
Bay Horse entertain Masons Arms, Hunwick play host to Ash Tree and Shildon Athletic are at home to Half Moon.

Meanwhile, other games involving SSL teams are detailed in Fixtures.

• Club secretaries are reminded that all results, or postponed fixtures, MUST now be phoned or text to Secretary Mike Hill on 07773 925748, before 2pm Sundays and before 9pm midweek games.
Clubs that fail to inform the league of results to that number before the required time will be penalised in accordance with league rules.
