Castle claim first Fox scalp Division Three round-up
SHILDON Fox and Hounds lost their first game of the season with a home defeat against third-placed Castle.
It was cat-and-mouse in the first half after Paul Thompson had put the visitors ahead, only to see Michael Roberts equalise for the Fox.
Thompson then put Castle ahead after the re-start, and he bagged his hat-trick to make it 3-1.
The lone striker netted his fourth before Ross Brown pulled one back for Fox, but Thompson capped a man-of-the-match performance with his fifth of the game.
A delighted Castle boss Peter Baker said: “We had a specific game plan and the lads stuck to it, showed great discipline and it paid off. Paul Thompson had the best game I’ve seen him play, he was tremendous for us, but we worked hard as a team so it was great. The result opens up the title race and really gives everyone else a shout now.”
Elsewhere in Division Three, Fox and Hounds won 4-2 at Horndale Celtic with goals by Grant Parnaby, Steven Bowen and Glyn Porter. Trevor Dixon and Guy Starling scored for Horndale.
Aycliffe Village won 6-1 at the Southerne Club thanks to a brace by Carl Cook and goals by Darren Griffiths, Garry Donald, Callum Farley and Shaun Sproates. Alan Steward scored for the Southerne.
EBAC won 8-1 at Masons United with goals by Craig Ellison (2), Damon Askew, Stuart Boddy, Gavin Bell, Mark Owen, John Wheatley and Anthony Stonehouse.
Navy Club drew 2-2 at home to Bishop Masons with goals by Chris Small and Kevin O’Neil. Simon Hodgson and Matthew Saunders scored for Masons.
