BINCHESTER CONTINUE STREAK

BINCHESTER Social Club continued their impressive winning streak with another win over Division One opponents.
The Division Two outfit outwitted Voltigeur to book a tie with Tudhoe United in the semi-finals of the League Cup after winning 5-2 in the quarter-finals last Sunday.
Lee Furber (2), John Wheatley (2) and Chris Pickles were all on target for the victors.
And Binny Secretary Steve Sutton said: “We struggled to get going at first and were trailing 2-0 inside the first 20 minutes, but we thankfully had the better of the second half and scored some goals. It’s going very well for us at the moment in the cups, and we’re still hopeful on the league front as well, so there’s loads to play for.”
Binchester have already booked themselves one final this season – a Division Two Cup Final clash with Victoria on Friday 29th April, kicking off at 6.30pm.
The other League Cup semi-final tie consists of Masons Arms v either Hunwick Joiners or Croxdale.
Meanwhile, Hunwick beat Old Shildon 3-2 in the semi-finals of the Division One Cup last week.
James Melville bagged two and Shaun Nicholson one to clinch the impressive win.
Secretary Aidan McCabe said: “They created more chances in the first half but I think we had the better in the second. Perhaps our goalkeeper and his post kept us in the game in the second half, but we’re just delighted to reach another final.”
Hunwick now face Thorns in the final on Monday Bank Holiday, 2nd May, kicking off at 10.30am – a dress rehearsal for the League Cup Final between the two sides on Friday Sunday 8th May.
Elsewhere last Sunday, Lakeside recorded their third consecutive win with a hard-fought, 2-1 win over Tudhoe United.
A Dave Welsh goal cancelled out Tudhoe’s first-half opener before Welsh grabbed his and Lakeside’s second to clinch the three points.
Manager Stuart Hodgson said: “It was a good win which further restored some self-belief, and we are starting to play as a team again and working for each other. We seem to be finishing the season on a high, which can only do us good in building for next season.”
Elsewhere, Horndale recorded a remarkable double this week when they beat Masons Arms 3-2 on Sunday, then beat Old Shldon by the same scoreline on Tuesday night this week to storm up to third in the table.
In Division Two last Sunday, Belvedere won 4-0 at North Briton with goals by Brendan Mullen (2), Paul Gargett and John-Paul Greaves.
Green Tree won 5-2 at Masons United thanks to goals by Matt Marrick (2), Jonathan Millward (2) and Darren Dye. Paul Gibson and Gavin Alderson scored for Masons.
