Browney comeback not enough against Volti
Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
A MINI Browney revival wasn’t enough as the Division One strugglers were beaten by Voltigeur.
Volti raced into a 6-1 lead with goals by Chris Pennal (2), Chris Hodgon (2) and Gary Bestford, but Browney goals by Peter Boucher, Robert Barron, Steven Mudd and John Dixon gave them hope, before Volti were able to hold on to their lead.
“It wasn’t a very good performance by the lads,” said their Secretary Tony Biddle. “They went into that lead and then just waited for the final whistle and allowed them back into the game. I think we were just the better side, and w win is a win!”

Meanwhile, Lakeside narrowly edged their clash with Binchester Social Club as two second-half goals cancelled out Binny’s first-half opener. See this week's Game of the Week feature.
Elsewhere, Thorns were 4-0 winners over the Bay Horse with goals by Michael Oliver (2) and Mark Nicholson (2).
The following three other scheduled games were all postponed: Old Shildon v Eldon Arms, Hogans v Masons Arms, Hunwick v Penny Gill.

In Division Two last week, Half Moon and Belvedere drew 3-3. Paul Bayles scored all of the Moon’s three goals, while Lee Nixon also netted a hat-trick for Belvedere.
Victoria won 5-2 at the George & Dragon thanks to goals by Mark Nelson (2), Jason Greenland, Dennis Lockey and Michael Lowes, while Green Tree won 8-0 at the Southerne Club with goals by Gavin McIntyre (3), Matthew Carrick (2), Darren Stephens, Barry Liddle and Andrew Rogers.
New Brancepeth were 8-4 winners over Horndale Celtic thanks to goals by Gary Hindmarch (3), Karl Wilkinson (2), Michael Gibbons (2) and Anthony Holiday. Guy Starling (2), Jamie Scott and Glenn Hendrix were on target for Horndale.
Atlantic Bar were 4-2 winners at Ash Tree, while the games between Quinns and Croxdale and Shildon Athletic and North Briton were postponed.

• The league is holding a Christmas Party Night at the Southerne Club in Newton Aycliffe on Friday 9th December. A Pie & Peas supper will be available and entertainment will be provided by top local band The Zoo, while the league’s annual Christmas Prize Draw will also be made.
Tickets costing just £3 are available to league members – while any remaining tickets will be distributed evenly between remaining clubs, so numbers (and prizes donated by clubs) are required on the night of the next league meeting at the Southerne Club on Wednesday 7th December.
