Navy leapfrog Southerne with win Division Three round-up
THE NAVY CLUB put one over their neighbours Horndale Celtic to leapfrog fellow Aycliffe rivals the Southerne Club in Division Three.
Horndale had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half, although Navy recovered in the second half to out-run their opponents and chalk their third league win of the season – jumping a place to seventh.
Kevin O’Neil scored three, while Wayne Pratt, Rob Johnson, Michael Heseltine and an own goal were also on Navy’s scoresheet.
“I thought we were too strong for them in the second half,” said Navy’s assistant manager Neil Rickaby. “They were pushing us in the first half, they had chances and our goalkeeper has played really well, but I just think they tired after half-time, and it was fairly comfortable for us in the end. We had a full squad to choose from for the first time in a while and that showed, we played some good football.” Trevor Dixon scored twice and Shaun Grant once for Horndale.
Elsewhere, Shildon Fox and Hounds won 6-4 at Masons United with goals by Michael Roberts (3), Darren Foster and Michael Boddy. Chris Larkman and Carl Dawson both netted a brace each for Masons.
Graham Kime and Stuart Rand scored for Merrington Fox and Hounds as they drew 2-2 with Castle, who had Daniel Pattinson and Paul Thompson on the scoresheet.
EBAC won 9-0 at home to the Southerne Club with goals by John Wheatley (3), Gavin Bell (3), Mark Owen (2) and Darren Dye.
Aycliffe Village won 3-1 at home to Bishop Masons with goals by Jonathan Craig (2) and Morgan Fielding. Adam Henderson scored for Masons.
