Legends or leg-ends – YOU decide!

WHAT do you think of The Three Legends show?

And what are your views on Bernie, Malcolm and Gatesy?
Well, your views are needed for a new book about Century fm’s football phone-in.

Bernie Slaven, Malcolm Macdonald and Eric Gates have been hosting The Three Legends show on Century fm since 2001, each giving their own unique views on the ups and downs of North-East football.

Now they plan to publish a superb hardback book about the popular phone-in – and you have a chance to play your part.

The book will be packed full of memories about their playing careers with Boro, Newcastle and Sunderland – humorous tales, the best calls and their views on the region’s big three.

But the book won’t be just about the views of Bernie, Malcolm and Eric. They want North-East football fans to play their part, too.

They want fans to send in memories of their favourite calls from the past, views on what they love and hate about the show, and – most of all – honest opinions on The Three Legends themselves!

Former Boro star Bernie said: “The fans don’t have to be positive with their comments – as long as they’re not libellous! We want to include views that are positive, negative, funny, honest or downright controversial.

“We’d like supporters and listeners to tell us what they thought about each of us as players, any special memories they have of our playing days, and their views of us now. Do you get sick of Eric’s moaning or Malcolm sending us all to sleep?”

Ex-Sunderland hero Gatesy added: “We’re enjoying pulling the book together but we don’t just want it to be about us and our opinions. We want the fans to play a big part too, just like they do in the phone-in itself.”

And the book will also include something on the rivalry between the three clubs. Malcolm explained: “I’m sure the supporters of Newcastle United and Sunderland will want to point out what they think of each other – and that they don’t think about Middlesbrough.

“All the best comments will be included in the book, just as long as they are printable. We really want to get over the feeling and character of the show in the book.”
