Thorns’ second half fightback Division One round-up
THORNS produced a gutsy second-half revival to steal all three points from a luckless North Briton.
The Aycliffe Village side raced into a 2-0 half-time lead with two goals by Marc De Lucia before Thorns came out the blocks after half-time, rattling in five through Steven Richardson, Michael Oliver, Danny Lee (2) and then Steven Smith.
De Lucia netted a third for the Brit but it was only a consolation.
Thorns boss Dave McWaters said: “We were awful in the first half, we just couldn’t string a pass together. But we were much improved after half-time and started to play some decent football.”
Elsewhere in Division One, Tudhoe United won 9-1 at home to Voltigeur with goals by Billy McClacklan (3), Allan Barratt (2), Paul Leadbitter and Christian Schofield as well as two bullet headers by veteran schemer David Stephenson.
Masons Arms won 3-0 at home to Croxdale with goals by Liam McRoy, John Savage and Lee Atkinson.
