Brit hit the Moon for six

NORTH BRITON hit Half Moon for six as they recorded their sixth league win of the season.

Only six of the league’s scheduled 14 games were played as last week’s rain deemed most pitches unplayable.

And the Brit managed to beat mid-table Half Moon 6-3 thanks to a hat-trick by inspirational gaffer Gary Donald and a brace by wily old winger Phil Judge, added with a solitary strike by Chris Airey.

Boss Donald beamed: “It was our most improved performance of the season. They played well and it was a good game, but I was delighted with our lads. It was an excellent all-round team display and, considering we’re struggling for a side at the moment, it makes a pleasant change. We’re starting to put some performances and results together now so that’s really pleasing.” Carl Lamb, Philipe Cortese and Neil Parnaby scored Half Moon’s goals.

Meanwhile, the Ash Tree won their eighth game of the campaign with a 4-1 victory at the Southerne Club.

Ash Tree scored three first-half goals in the space of seven minutes after Steven Walton opened the scoring after 35 minutes. Mark Surtees doubled their lead two minutes later before Lee Gobin made it three after 42 minutes.

Gobin grabbed his second and Ash Tree’s fourth after 65 minutes before Shildon netted a consolation goal.

Ash Tree Secretary Jeff Spooner said: “Southerne Club started the game well, but the three quick goals was enough to kill it off and we grew stronger in the second half.

“But credit to the Southerne Club, they gave a hard-fought performance but we needed the three points so it was an excellent result for us.”

Croxdale increased their lead at the top to ten points with a 5-0 win at home to Masons United, with goals by Iain Ambrosini (2), Brent Mailer, Phil Wilkinson and Gavin Bell.

Fred Wood struck twice for Atlantic Bar as they drew 3-3 with Shildon Athletic. Tom Pill was also on target for Atlantic, with Stewart Doughty (2) and Peter Duce scoring for Shildon.

New Brancepeth beat Green Tree 4-3 with goals by Keith Rutherford (2), Paul Littlewood and Michael Gibbons. Gavin McIntyre, Barry Liddle and Matthew Carrick scored for Green Tree.

All but one of the Division Two games were played last week, with the match between Horndale Celtic and George & Dragon being postponed.

Every single Division One fixture fell foul of the weather, while only one of the four B&A Trophy quarter-finals made it.

Masons Arms skipped into the semi-finals of the competition with a comfortable win over their Division Two opposition Belvedere.

The other quarter-final ties between Lakeside and Victoria, Binchester SC and Thorns and Old Shildon and Quinns were all postponed.
