Belvedere top with second win
Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup/J&A Trophy/league round-up

BELVEDERE top the Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup group A table after they won 2-1 at home to Hogans.

Alan Lamb gave Belvedere a 1-0 lead at half-time, only for Mark Parker to equalise for Hogans.

But Brendan Mullen scored the winner with just minutes remaining to give Belvedere three valuable points in group A.

Winning boss Karl Thompson admitted: “It really could have gone either way. Both sides had lots of chances, the woodwork played a big part in the game, but it was a brilliant game to watch for the neutral.”

In the J&A Trophy last week, Division Two side Green Tree booked a quarter-final tie at home to top-flight Tudhoe United with a 2-1 win at Masons United in the second round.

Matthew Carrick scored both goals for the Tree, while Chris Scaife scored Masons’ only goal.

The quarter-finals are due to be played on Sunday March 11. The other quarters are Half Moon v Castle, Aycliffe Village v Shildon Fox and Hounds and Masons Arms v Quinns.
In the only league game last week, Division Two leaders New Brancepeth won 10-3 at Penny Gill with goals by Anthony Holiday (3), Philip Wilkinson (2), Eddie Watson (2), Craig Hindmarch (2) and Clark Charlton.
