Champions Browney scrape past Shildon Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup semi-final & round-up
DIVISION TWO champions Browney edged a close semi-final with Shildon Athletic.
Browney eventually won the league title – and promotion to the top-flight – by nine clear points head of second-placed New Brancepeth.
And they set up a Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup final with the league runners-up with this semi win over Shildon Athletic.
Andrew Nicholson gave them a 1-0 lead before Jamie Scaiffe pulled one back for Shildon.
Carl Turner made it 2-1 but Scaiffe equalised again for Shildon before Robert Baron put Browney 3-2 up with the winner.
Browney’s Gavin Mudd said: “They had a few chances and could have made it difficult for us. To takle nothing away from them at all, they caused us some problems and it wasn’t easy. So we were pleased to get through eventually – it’s been an excellent season for us up to now, we won the league by nine points and we have a final to look forward to so it’s been great.”
Meanwhile, in Division One last week, runners-up Quinns completed their league campaign with a 3-0 win at home to Binchester Social Club thanks to goals by Dave Parker, Wayne Fradgley and Liam Clough.
Old Shildon booked their League Cup final tie with Castle (on Sunday May 20) with a semi-final win over Hunwick Joiners with goals by James Hedley, Anthony Brown and Paul Wilson.
