Hunwick reach divisional cup semis Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League HUNWICK JOINERS booked their place in the Division One Cup semi-finals with a win over Old Shildon. Hunwick raced into a three-goal lead at half-time thanks to strikes by Danny Lee, Shaun Nicholson and Paul Taylor. And despite their first half dominance, a Craig Hutchinson goal ensured a nervy finish for Hunwick, who join Thorns and Masons Arms in the last four. “It was almost backs to the walls for the last 20,” said their Secretary Aidan McCabe. “When they pulled their goal back, they were pushing us, but we defended quite well and limited them to long crosses into the box and set-pieces, so there were no real panics.” Voltigeur entertain Lakeside this Sunday to determine the last place in the semis of the competition.
In Division One league action last week, Lakeside jumped back to second in Division One with a good win over rivals Tudhoe United. See the latest Game of the Week feature. Tudhoe Secretary James Curley added: “I thought it was a close game, but they got two quick goals in the first half, which forced us to change our game plan to get back into it. And we did with the goal and some second-half pressure, but the third goal killed us off.”
Elsewhere, Penny Gill beat Bay Horse 6-1 with goals by Paul Jones (4), Kevin Gilham and Stephen Bunning. David Teder scored for the Horse.
In Division Two, Quinns stayed in touch with leaders Croxdale with a 2-0 win at Masons United. Two goals by Gareth Jackson and one each for Craig and David Parker was enough to seal a 4-0 victory. Masons’ Andrew Simpson said: “We started off well, had a couple of chances in the first 20 minutes, but we showed more bite in the second half and closed down a lot quicker, not giving them time on the ball worked well. But their experience showed in the end.”
Leaders Croxdale, meanwhile, won 5-1 at New Brancepeth thanks to goals by Kevin Hepburn (3), Philip Wilkinson and Iain Ambrosini. Paul Littlewood scored for Brancepeth.
