QUINNS progressed to the quarter-finals of the B&A Trophy with a win over Ash Tree in the second round of the competition.
Two goals by Ian Brown plus one from David Parker gave them a 3-1 win over struggling Ash Tree, despite an Andrew Thompson consolation.
Quinns Secretary Keith Brain admitted: “It wasn’t the best of games and we maybe should have scored a few more goals and won more comfortably. But we’re pleased to just get the win. It gets a bit difficult when we’re having to field our veteran over-40s every week!”

Meanwhile, Lakeside joined Quinns in the quarter-final hat by the skin of their teeth after a 7-5, extra-time win at Voltigeur.
Striker Marc De Lucia netted five in the game for Lakeside, while there was one each from Steve Hepples and Wayne Marram.
Boss Stuart Hodgson said: “We made hard work of it but it was good to get through and into the quarter-finals. We’ve been playing well recently and so it was pleasing to keep our record going, although our performance wasn’t at its best.” Gary Bestford (2), Gary Dixon, Chris Pennal and Chris Hodgson all scored for the Volti.

Elsewhere in the B&A Trophy last week, Masons Arms won 6-1 at Hogans with goals by Kevin Dodds (2), Tom Fothergill (2) and Marc Costello. John Slack scored for Hogans.

Belvedere won 7-1 at home to the Southerne Club with goals by Lee Nixon (6) and Brendan Mullen. Alan Steward and Glen Robinson scored for the Southerne.

The games between George & Dragon and Victoria, and Penny Gill and Binchester Social Club were both postponed.
So, the quarter-finals consist of: Thorns, Quinns, Masons Arms, Belvedere, Lakeside, Old Shildon, George & Dragon/Victoria and Penny Gill/Binchester SC.

In the only Division One fixture last week, Hunwick Joiners won 5-1 at home to Browney with goals by Stephen Howe (2), Shaun Nicholson, Ross Brown and Paul Taylor. Peter Boucher scored for Browney.

In Division Two, New Brancepeth recorded an important league win over promotion-chasers Half Moon with a hard-earned victory. See our latest Game of the Week feature.
