LEADERS CROXDALE DROP POINTS
Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
DIVISION Two leaders Croxdale suffered a shock setback when they were beaten by Green Tree last week.
Croxdale have put a string of impressive results together that has seen them go top of the division, winning eight games from their first 12.
But Green Tree, who have only lost twice this season, comfortably beat them 4-0 with goals by Darren Dye (2), Barry Liddle and Paul Shaw.
Secretary Ian Richardson said: “The lads played really well. They were bad conditions but we have made the best of it and got a god result. Now we’re hoping to climb the table and start pushing for promotion.”
Elsewhere in the second division, Masons United won 4-2 at Belvedere thanks to goals by Kevin Russell (2), Steven Alderson and Paul Gibson. Lee Nixon scored both goals for Belvedere.
There were no other games, however, as Ash Tree v North Briton, Atlantic Bar v Shildon Athletic and Victoria v Eldon Arms fell victim to the weather.
In Division One, Hunwick Joiners continued their title push with a narrow 4-3 win over sixth-placed Tudhoe United.
Ross Brown, James Melville, Darren Wilson and Stephen Howe were all on target for the winners, with Michael Lee, Aaron McGarr and Christian Schofield scoring for Tudhoe.
Meanwhile, Horndale moved up to fifth with a 4-1 win over the Grand. Strikers Tony Stebbings and Neil Topping netted a brace apiece, and Secretary Mickey Grimes said: “It was a good close game, but once they missed a penalty we took control and eventually ran out deserved winners.”
Elsewhere, Browney won 3-1 at home to Postchaise thanks to a hat-trick by Karl Turner. Jonathan Millward scored for Postchaise.
The Division One Cup round one tie between Old Shildon and Masons Arms was also postponed.
• Clubs are reminded that they must pay for their allocation of raffle tickets for the Christmas Prize Draw at the next meeting.
The next league meeting will take place at the North Briton, Aycliffe Village, Newton Aycliffe, on Wednesday December 8th December 2004, from 8pm.
Clubs can request more tickets by contacting Martin Walker on 07949 840232.
