Second half fightback not enough for Brit
Division One round-up

A SPIRITED second half fightback wasn’t enough for the Brit as they were undone by three first-half goals against Old Shildon.

Paul Whensley scored twice and Kevin Wilson once as top-of-the-table Shildon raced into their 3-0 half-time lead.

Lee Gray headed one back after the break and then Andy Kay scored from long distance to put pressure on the league-leaders.

But they held out for the three points to clinch their seventh league win of the season.

“It was a good game,” said Shildon’s Dave Hedley. “We played well in the first half but tired in the second and the Brit did well to get back into it. They might have pulled it right back as well, so it was a good result for us in the end, it just keeps us on track.”

Elsewhere in Division One, Croxdale won 5-1 at Binchester Social Club with goals by Kev Hepburn (2), Gavin Bell, Iain Ambrosini and James Richardson. Michael Tinkler scored for Binny.

Tudhoe United won 3-2 at Hunwick Joiners thanks to goals by Paul Leadbeater, David Johnson and Christian Schofield. James Melville and Andrew Howard scored for Hunwick.

Steven Richardson and Mark Nicholson were on target for Thorns as they drew 2-2 with Voltigeur – Chris Pennal and Gary Dixon scoring their goals.
