HARMAN STRIKE SHADES THORNS WIN Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League A LATE goal by Chris Harman helped Thorns to shade a close First Division match against Postchaise. Visitors Postchaise didn’t trail throughout the game until Harman netted the all-crucial winner. Paul Downs put them 1-0 up, but Michael Oliver equalised from the penalty spot. Lee Taylor then made it 2-1 to Postchaise before Kyley Wright drew level, only for Taylor to put his side 3-2 up from the spot. Steven Smith equalised for Thorns before Harman completed the scoring and wrap up the three points. “Very disappointing,” said Postchaise skipper Paul Barker. “We kept taking the lead during the whole game and we felt, for the majority of the match, that we had a good chance of winning it, but we ran out of steam towards the end and it has cost us the game.” Thorns Secretary Steven Richardson said: “It was a very tough game and they led for most of it, so to eventually get the win was very pleasing, although they’ll feel hard done by after playing very well.” Meanwhile, Lakeside won their clash with Tudhoe United in similar circumstances, edging a 13-goal thriller. Lakeside would take the lead, only for United to draw level minutes later – and that was the story of the game, until five minutes from the end when striker Wayne Marram bagged the priceless winner. “And we were under the cosh from then on!” admitted Lakeside manager Stuart Hodgson. “They competed throughout the whole game, and although I thought our final goal killed them off, they threw everything at us and could well have equalised again. But we luckily held out and it was a good battling win.” Martin Walker (2), Marc De Lucia (2), Dave Welsh and Steve Hepples scored the other six goals for Lakeside, while striker Billy McClacklan netted five for Tudhoe, with Christian Schofield getting the other. In-form Beehive recorded a 4-3 win over Browney. Adam Henderson put Beehive two goals up, but Browney drew level by half-time. Mark Pattinson and Kenny Melvin scored in the second half to wrap up the goal late on. Browney’s scorers were Steven Wallace and Jason Murray (2). Elsewhere in Division One, Old Shildon beat Binchester SC 9-2, while Salvins and Newton Aycliffe drew 2-2. In Division Two, top-of-the-table Belvedere drew 2-2 with Masons United, while Victoria jumped to second with a 5-4 win over Cumby Arms. Hunwick were beaten 1-0 by the Grand, Shildon Athletic beat Boot & Shoe 3-0 and Voltigeur beat Middlestone Moor 3-1. • The league has called an extraordinary league meeting, to be held at Spennymoor United’s Brewery Field clubhouse at 8pm on Wednesday 29th October. All clubs MUST be represented at the meeting.
