LAKESIDE FELLED BY TREE
Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
FIRST Division side Lakeside crashed out of the B&A Trophy with a 5-3 defeat at Second Division and league new boys Ash Tree.
Steven Walton scored three, while Steven Bowen and Glynn Porter also scored to book their place in the second round.
“Delighted with the win,” said Tree’s Jeff Spooner. “It was by far our best performance so far and deserved to win. It was a good game and the fact we’ve beaten a first division team will hopefully give us more confidence in the league.” Marc De Lucia (2) and Wayne Marram scored Lakeside’s goals.
Meanwhile, Tudhoe United also skipped into the second round with a convincing 7-0 victory at home to Gainford.
Allan Barratt, Christian Schofield and Neil Davison all scored two each, with Aaron McGarr getting one.
Tony Lennox said: “I think we had the game wrapped up by half-time. They have some good players but I think the fact they’re a new side showed a bit as they struggled to gel, but we were pleased with the result.”
Hunwick Joiners, last season’s Division Two champions, continued their superb start to the season with a 7-2 win at second division Masons United.
Sean Nicholson scored a hat-trick, while there was two from Paul Bailes and one each from Lien Howe and Steven Howe. Dean Merchant and Steven Alderson scored for Masons.
Hunwick Secretary Aidan McCabe said: “We were expecting a tough game as they have started the league season very well, but we played some really good football. We’re just hoping our form can continue in the league and we’ll do alright.”
Elsewhere in the B&A Trophy, Middlestone Moor beat Atlantic Bar 5-4 with goals by David Carr (2), Chris Million (2) and John Rammage. Trevor Dixon (2), Bryan McCourt and Paul Wytcherley scored for Atlantic.
