Quinns off to a flier with win Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
QUINNS got their season off to a flying start with a 4-1 win at Croxdale in Division One.
The first game of the new season brought little surprise results, although few would separate Croxdale and Quinns – both promoted from the old second division last season, Croxdale as champions.
And it was the favourites who took the lead through a Gavin Bell strike.
John-Paul Tallentire pulled it back for Quinns and Craig Parker added a second before half-time to give them a 2-1 lead at the break.
Chris Hodgson then added the third and Tallentire netted his second to complete the win.
Quinns manager Stephen Jackson said:
Meanwhile, last year’s champions Thorns and runners-up Masons Arms were both also off to winning starts.
Thorns won 2-0 at home to Bay Horse with goals by Mark Nicholson and Tommy Parkin, while Masons Arms won 6-1 at home to Old Shildon thanks to goals by Liam McRoy (2), Steven Fothergill, Marc Costello, Lewis Dodds and Kevin Dodds.
Hunwick were 3-1 winners at home to Voltigeur. Wayne Fleming, Shaun Brown and Paul Taylor scored Hunwick’s goals, while Ian Johnstone scored for the Volti.
