MIDDRIDGE Bay Horse proved too strong for Hunwick Joiners despite a mini fightback.

After the Horse took a 4-0 lead, Hunwick’s revival brought three goals and a glimmer of hope.

But the visitors killed the game off with three more goals to eventually win 7-4, with goals by Dale Anderson (2), John Hughes (2), David Tedar (2) and Darren Scott.

Bay Horse manager Adrian Musgrave said: “I was surprised with the final result, but not with the way we went about the game. We had been struggling to score goals, but we’ve scored 17 in the last two now, and although our league positions would suggest Hunwick should be beating us, we’ve given them a real good game and it was a good match to watch. But I think we were deserved winners in the end.” Ross Brown (2), Ian Wise and Aiden McCabe scored Hunwick’s goals.

Elsewhere in Division One, Masons Arms won 6-1 at home to Voltigeur with goals by Justin Fox (2), Peter Kerr, Tom Fothergill, Kevin Dodds and Marc Costello. Chris Penal scored Volti’s goal.

Penny Gill beat Browney 4-2 thanks to two goals each by Kevin Gillham and Steven Bunning. John Kidd scored both Browney goals.

Andrew Sams was on target twice for Eldon Arms as they won 2-0 at Hogans.

Meanwhile, Thorns dealt Binchester Social Club a hammer blow when they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the quarter-finals of the B&A Trophy.

Binchester did everything but win this tie, but wasted a string of second half chances as Thorns grabbed a late, extra-time winner.

It took the in-form side 30 minutes to get a breakthrough when Ryan Kiteley cut in from the left side to chip the goalkeeper. Gareth Jackson then doubled their lead from the spot to make it 2-0 at half-time.

David Parker added a third five minutes after the re-start, and then Chris Hodgson netted the fourth before Dean Grayson added a fifth. Craig Parker then bagged two to complete the scoring.
