Victoria pressure Croxdale at the top
Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
VICTORIA kept in close pursuit of Division Two leaders Croxdale with a bounceback win over Ash Tree.

The Vic were dumped out of the Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup with a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Quinns.
And they made amends for that with their 15th win of the campaign.
Jason Greenland gave them a 1-0 lead before half-time and John Templeton added a second after the break.
Mark Nelson grabbed a third before Andrew Bell netted a consolation for Ash Tree.

Vic manager Marcus Jayne said: “It was pleasing to get a win after the disappointing cup defeat. It was important that we stayed in touch of Croxdale at the top because it’s close and there’s only three teams in it. We all want to win the league, and that’s our target. Promotion would be excellent for us, but winning the division would be something else.”

Meanwhile, Croxdale maintained their Division Two title bandwagon with a strong second half performance against Shildon Athletic. See the latest Game of the Week feature for full report and pictures.

Elsewhere, Quinns were looking for some revenge of their own after losing an earlier game in the season with Half Moon, and they did just that with a thumping 13-0 win.

Six of the goals came from Ian Brown, while there was also a hat-trick for Chris Hodgson. Stephen Bromley, Craig Parker and Gaz Jackson also scored, while and there a forth of the season for ‘keeper Andrew Spence sealed the victory.

Southerne Club won 6-2 at George & Dragon with goals by Glen Robinson (4), Lee Redpath and Sean Redpath.

Horndale Celtic drew 3-3 with Belvedere. Scott Mason, Paul Hughes and Glenn Hendrix scored Celtic’s goals, while Paul Gargett (2) and Lee Nixon were on target for Belvedere

North Briton beat Atlantic Bar 5-2 with goals by Gary Donald (2), Thomas Chandler, Michael Hannon and Pip Judge

The game between New Brancepeth and Green Tree was postponed.

In Division One last week, Thorns reversed their divisional cup defeat by Hunwick with a mirror result to maintain their lead at the top.

Ian Woodall (2), Andy Richardson, Anthony Stewart and Mark Nicholson were all on target to give them a 5-1 victory. Paul Taylor was on target for Hunwick.

Peter Kerr, Marc Costello, Gavin Greenwood and Steven Fothergill were all on target for Masons Arms as they beat Tudhoe United 4-1. Matty Bee scored Tudhoe’s goal.

Lakeside won 3-1 at home to Eldon Arms thanks to goals by Mark Bulman, Steve Woodward and an own goal. Dan Hill scored Eldon’s goal.

Binchester Social Club beat Voltigeur 5-1 with goals by John Wheatley (3) and Chris Pickles (2).
