MASONS ARMS MAKE FINAL Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League MASONS ARMS made it through to the final of the League Cup after beating arch rivals Hunwick Joiners in the semi-finals. Masons have lined up a final clash with Division Two side Binchester Social Club on Sunday 15th May after their semi win – Peter Kerr and Kevin Dodds scored the all-important goals. Masons Secretary John Booth said: “We’re delighted with the win but not really surprised that we can produce that kind of performance. We’ve been threatening it for a while and it was a real good all-round performance.” Meanwhile, the Paul Stevens Cup is starting to take shape, with Thorns already in the quarter-finals of the new competition. Games are being played mid-week – and the semi-finals will consist of: Thorns v Horndale/Old Shildon; Masons Arms/Belvedere v Masons Utd/Eldon Arms. In Division One last week, Thorns won their last game of the season with a 4-0 victory at home to Browney, a result which effectively relegated Browney to Division Two. Shaun Longthorne, Martin Longthorne, Michael Oliver and David Lowes scored the goals. Hunwick took another huge step towards lifting the Division One title with a 4-2 win over Old Shildon on Tuesday night this week. They are now level wit Thorns at the top (Thorns having a better goal difference), so a draw at Masons Arms this Sunday would in the last game of the season would guarantee them the title. Meanwhile, Old Shildon won 6-2 at Salvins last Sunday thanks to goals by Adam Pinkney (2), Darren Place, Anthony Moss, Paul Wilson and Paul Whensley. Andrew Kyle and Paul Jones scored Salvins’ goals. Binchester Social Club are edging towards the Division Two title – they chase leaders Eldon Arms with three games in hand and six points adrift. The two sides are already mathematically assured of promotion to Division One. Binchester’s remaining four games are at home to Green Tree (due to be Thursday April 21), home to Eldon Arms (Sunday April 24), at Atlantic Bar (Tuesday April 26) and at home to Ash Tree (TBA). Meanwhile, last Sunday, Ash Tree won 3-2 at Cumby Arms last Sunday with goals by Steven Walton (2) and Andrew Poulton. Steven Fawcett and Philip Appelby scored for Cumby. Croxdale won 4-1 at home to Victoria with goals by Michael Watson (2) and Gavin Bell (2). Jason Greenland grabbed the Vic’s only goal. . |
