Masons off the bottom with first win Division Three round-up
MASONS UNITED hauled themselves off the bottom of Division Three with their first win of the season at the Southerne Club.
Striker Chris Larkman netted four goals for United, while there was also one apiece from Paul MacDonald, George Richardson and Andrew Simpson.
And club secretary Simpson admitted: “It’s our first win since last season because we never won any of our pre-season games either! So it was good to just get it out of the way and we can hopefully take it from there. We’re off the bottom now so the aim is to just score as many goals as possible, hopefully turn our goal difference around and win as many games as possible – and just enjoy it along the way!” Scott Hudson, Paul Downs and Gordon Nickleson scored Southerne’s goals.
Elsewhere in Division Three last week, Shildon Fox and Hounds won maintained their top-of-the-table status with a 7-2 win at Horndale Celtic. Steven Hall (2), Lee Robertson (2), Michael Roberts, Daniel Henderson and Jamie Martin were all on target. Jamie Scott and Guy Starling scored Horndale’s goals.
Aycliffe Village won 10-1 at home to the Navy Club with goals by Morgan Fielding (4), Callum Farley (2), Marc Addy (2), Chris Airey and Steve Moran.
Fox and Hounds and Bishop Masons played out a 3-3 draw. Kenny Melvin, Simon Hodgson and Jeff Alderson scored for the Masons, while Mark Surtees, Michael Burn and Lee Gobin were on target for the Fox.
