Quinns book cup semi place Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
DIVISION TWO side Quinns booked a League Cup semi-final place with a quarters win at home to Binchester Social Club.
Quinns set up their semi clash with either Lakeside or Masons Arms with a 4-0 win at home to Binchester.
Dave Parker opened the scoring and Ian Brown added a second before half-time, while Steve Quinn and Jordan Bulmer both scored after the break to complete the scoring.
“It was fairly straightforward,” said Quinns’ Stephen Jackson. “We got the two goals and they enjoyed a 20-minute spell of pressure but without having a shot on goal.
“It’s good to get to the semi-finals but there’s a long way to go yet, and there’s a lot of league games also to be played, so a two-week period could make or break our season.”
Masons Arms also won their second round tie against the Southerne Club, but were made to fight for it by a spirited Southerne performance.
Alan Stuart put the Division Two side ahead, and Masons didn’t equalise until after the break when Kevin Dodds.
Then goals by Lee Newby, Peter Kerr, Ryan Murray and two by Marc Costello made sure of their passage to the quarters.
Masons’ Stuart Savage said: “They grabbed the first goal and defended very well, it was very frustrating and we had to be patient. But once we got a couple I they ran out of steam and we won comfortably in the end.”
Masons are due to play Lakeside in the quarter-finals this Sunday – the winners of which will play Quinns in the semis next Sunday (30th April).
Meanwhile, Thorns booked their first cup final of the campaign with a narrow semi-final win over Division Two table-toppers Croxdale in the semi-finals of the same competition - see the latest Game of the Week feature for more details.
