OLD SHILDON IN TO SEMIS

OLD SHILDON boosted their cup glory hopes by progressing to the semi-finals of the First Division Cup.
Shildon powered into the last four at the expense of Tudhoe United, who held the favourites 1-1 at half-time.
Goals by Paul Latcham, Kevin Wilson, Louis Whensley and Anthony Moss guaranteed their progression to the semis.
“It was very close,” said Shildon Secretary Sharon Hedley. “We took time getting into it and they held us at half-time, but we came out strong in the second half and deserved to win in the end. Now we’re into the semi-finals and I’d don’t want to be the kiss of death, but we would love to win it this season.”
Horndale also made it to the last four with a 2-1 win over Salvins, Dale Anderson and Darren Scott scoring the goals.
Thorns beat Grand 6-0 with goals by Ian Woodall (3), Michael Oliver, Martin Longthorne and Steven Smith.
The semi-finals of the competition consists of: Old Shildon, Horndale, Thorns and Hunwick Joiners.
In the Division Two Cup quarters last week, Ash Tree won a dramatic penalty shoot-out with North Briton after the two sides drew 3-3 after extra-time. The Tree clinched a late equaliser in normal time, and went on to win the shoot-out 8-7.
Croxdale beat Gainford 3-1 thanks to a Dean Taylor hat-trick, while Binchester Social Club beat Belvedere 4-1 with goals by Chris Pickles, Michael Tinkler, John Wheatley and Anthony Binks. Chris Young scored for Belvedere.
So the semi-finals of the Second Division Cup consists of: Ash Tree, Binchester Social Club, Croxdale and Victoria.
In the only Division One match last week, bottom-of-the-table Voltigeur recorded their first win of the season with a 6-3 win over struggling Browney.
Ian Mains (2), Ryan Kiteley (2), Chris Hughes and Billy Ward scored the goals, and delighted Secretary Tony Biddle said: “It’s great to get out first win on the board. I think they’re struggling a bit and only had 10 men, but we played well and were deserved winners so the lads were very pleased.”
In Division Two, promotion-chasing Masons United were held to a 2-2 draw by Shildon Athletic.
Jamie Scaife put Shildon in the lead before Chris Larkman equalised before half-time. Paul Scott then put Masons ahead after the break, but Ross Brown equalised for Shildon with 10 minutes remaining.
Shildon Secretary Wayne Stout said: “It was an even game and we’re pleased with the point, although we had chances to win the game. Their goalkeeper has had a great game and probably kept them in it, so it was slightly disappointing that our finishing wasn’t better.”
Eldon Arms were 7-3 winners over Atlantic Bar with goals by David Leary (3), Andrew Sams (2), John Bloxsom and Craig Clark.
• The next league meeting will take place at Binchester Social Club, Bishop Auckland, on Wednesday 2nd February, 2005, from 8pm.
