Champions Thorns take on Bay Horse
LEAGUE champions Thorns take on Middridge Bay Horse at home this Sunday as the new season kicks off.
The 2006-07 campaign gets under way this Sunday, with 30 teams from the new-look three divisional format kicking off.
And league winners Thorns will begin their third defence of the title at home to Bay Horse, who finished ninth in the top flight last season.
“We’re all looking forward to what will hopefully be another action-packed season,” said League Secretary Mike Hill. “The league has changed its format quite considerably this summer, going to three divisions, so it will increase the competitiveness in each three divisions.
“But the first round of fixtures always throw up a few surprise results, and I’m sure everyone can’t wait to get started.”
Division One runners-up are at home to Old Shildon, while Division Two champions Croxdale kick off the season with an opener at home to rivals Quinns, who they pipped to the title by just one point on the final day of last season.
Victoria, who narrowly missed out on promotion after finishing third last season, are at home to Shildon Athletic this Sunday, while Browney – relegated from Division One – entertain New Brancepeth.
In the brand new Division Three, new boys Bishop Masons are at home to the Navy Club, while Castle are at home to Shildon Fox and Hounds, both new to the league this season.
EBAC are at home to Masons United.
