Lakeside through to League Cup QFs Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
LAKESIDE progressed to the quarter-finals of the League Cup with a rollercoaster victory over fellow Division One side Penny Gill. Lakeside pretty much dominated the first half after striker Wayne Marram put his side 1-0 up after just five minutes. His strike partner Marc De Lucia then netted two before Penny pulled one back through Aaron Soulsby. But Marram added his second to make it 4-1 at half-time as Lakeside appeared to be cruising. However, Penny had other ideas – and goals by John Nicholson and Aaron McGarr brought it back to 4-3. But De Lucia completed his hat-trick to all-but nail Lakeside’s passage to the quarter-finals, and then grabbed his fourth with five minutes left. Lakeside boss Stuart Hodgson said: “Very happy with our first half performance, but perhaps a bit of complacency set in after half-time and we let them back into the game. But once we got our fifth we started to relax a little and play a lot better.”
