FIRST AID FIRST CLASS FOR LEAGUE Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League THE Spennymoor Sunday League is once again leading by example with another forward-thinking initiative. As an incentive to its members, the league has enlisted the help of Durham FA to deliver a string of First Aid coaching courses as part of the FA’s Development Programme.
In a bid to improve First Aid standards in ensuring every club has at least one qualified ‘First Aider’, the league has paid for the Emergency First Aid courses on behalf of all 28 clubs. In addition, the league has also invested in brand new first aid kit bags for all clubs for the start of the 2005-06 season – which starts on Sunday 14th August.
“We believe we are once again unique in offering this service to our members,” said the league’s Treasurer Gary Livett. “Most clubs have qualified first aiders but not all, and this is a sure way of ensuring all clubs have them. “It’s also a unique way of actually giving something worthwhile back to our clubs in recognition of their support to the league. “While the courses only cover Emergency First Aid, we strongly believe the courses and the new kit bags are more than worth the investment and are just further proof that the league is constantly looking at ways of improving our standards at every level.”
Full-time paramedic John Emmerson delivered two, three-hour Emergency First Aid courses to the league’s 28 members on Monday and Tuesday this week. John also works part-time for Hartlepool United and delivers programmes for both Durham and North Riding County FAs. “I found it very worthwhile,” said Lakeside Secretary Malcolm Scott. “You’d hope you’d never have to use what you’ve learned from the course, but it’s useful to have some knowledge of Emergency First Aid and if the classes help even in just one instance then it will be worth it.” |
