Fox stay in touch at the top Division Three round-up
MERRINGTON Fox and Hounds maintained their pressure on the top two in Division Three with a comfortable home win over struggling Masons United.
Mark Surtees put them 1-0 up after 25 minutes after Fox had missed a penalty. Peter Burn netted a second five minutes half-time before Steven Walton added two in the space of five minutes after the break to make it 4-0.
Glyn Porter added a fifth on the hour mark and then Surtees grabbed his second of the game after 65 minutes to make it 6-0.
Walton completed his hat-trick with another goal, quickly adding another to make it four goals for him and eight for Fox, to round off a dominating home display.
Boss Stuart Rand said: “It was an excellent performance by the lads. They produced some terrific football and an exceptional defending display. We knew we had to keep picking up points to keep the pressure on the top two, and I think it will go down to the very end for promotion.”
