THORNS midfielder Andrew Richardson clinched the Division One Player of the Year award for the second successive season at the league presentation night last week.

All the winning teams received their cups and individual trophies on the night, while all the individual player awards were also dished out.

Spennymoor League referees' representative George Richardson is pictured presenting the trophy to Richardson, who won the award with 14 man-of-the-match awards over the course of the season.

Tom Fothergill from Masons Arms was runner-up with 12 MOMs, while Billy McKlacklen from Tudhoe and Shaun Nicholson from Hunwick were joint third in the ratings with 10 awards each.

Meanwhile, North Briton midfielder Gary Donald is pictured with the Division Two Player of the Year trophy after he won 16 awards in 2005-06.

Christopher Jones from New Brancepath missed out on the award by just one, finishing runner-up with 15 awards, while Shildon Athletic’s Richard Thompson and Lee Nixon from Belvedere both won 13.

Thorns striker Ian Woodhall was presented with his Division One Top Scorer award after netting 41 goals last season. Runner-up was Lakeside’s Marc De Lucia, while Billy McKlacklen (Tudhoe United) scored 30 to finish third.

In Division Two, Belvedere’s Lee Nixon breezed the award with an unprecedented 77 goals! Iain Ambrosini from Croxdale was runner-up with 52 goals, while Victoria’s Jason Greenland was third with 34 goals.

Meanwhile, Michael Livermore is also pictured with the Referee of the Year trophy. The Spennymoor Sunday League has yet again been blessed with a loyal pool of refs that have proved to be invaluable. The majority of the league’s refs have enjoyed another successful year and the standards just keep getting better, but Livermore came out on top with a superb average mark of 9.04.

Brian Burniston, meanwhile, was awarded with the Best New Referee of the Year with an average mark of 8.54.

Finally, the following club secretaries were all awarded with their Secretary of the Year awards after enjoying a fine-free season: Steve Sutton (Binchester Social Club), Malcolm Scott (Lakeside), Sharon Hedley (Old Shildon), Steve Richardson (Thorns), Keith Brain (Quinns) and Marcus Jayne (Victoria).
