Penny drops for three-star Gill Division Two round-up
STRUGGLING Penny Gill picked up only their second league win of the season at high-flying New Brancepeth – but admit they were lucky to bag all three points.
Currently second from bottom, the Spennymoor side took a shock 3-0 lead at half-time thanks two goals by Steven Bunning and one by Andrew Winter.
And despite Brancepeth goals by Shaun Davis and Craig Hindmarch after the break, they held on despite some sustained pressure.
Gill boss Norman Dale admitted: “They were the better side. We battled away and did well with the wind in the first half, but they pulled two goals back and with about 10 minutes left really had us against the ropes. But we managed to hold out, so it was a good result for us.”
Elsewhere in Division Two last week, Hogans won 2-1 at Green Tree with goals by Jason Colley and Paul Welsh.
Half Moon won 4-0 at home to Victoria with goals by Phillipe Cortese (2), John Templeton and Dave Hugill.
