Masons power on at top of first Division One round-up
MASONS ARMS maintained their 100% league record to take top spot at the top of Division One.
Last season’s league runners-up, looking by far the strongest and most consistent side up to now this season, won 6-0 at Binchester Social Club with goals by Tom Fothergill (2), Steven Fothergill, Liam McRoy, Jonathan Heslop and Craig Warburton.
The result saw them go a point clear above second-placed Old Shildon – and also keep their 100% record intact, the only club in the league’s three divisions to do so.
But Masons are not counting their chickens on any title win just yet.
“There’s still a long way to go,” said Anthony Warnett. “We’d hope that we can just keep winning our games and of course we hope we can win the league. If we get past Christmas, and a few more games under our belts which we’ve won, then we’ve got a good chance.”
Meanwhile, Shaun Longthorne was on target for Thorns as they drew 1-1 at home to Old Shildon. Michael Davison scored for Shildon.
Croxdale and Tudhoe United played out a 0-0 draw.
