Bay Horse back on track with ten Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League BAY HORSE got their season back on track with a thumping win over Hogans.
The Middridge side had seen their season slump after a run of indifferent results recently. But they were back up and running with a 10-0 win over struggling Hogans last week. Dale Anderson scored five goals, while Dave Tedar netted a brace. Chris Wilson and Paul Fitt were on target, while an own goal rubbed salt into the wounds for a deflated Hogans side.
“It was a massive confidence booster,” admitted Bay Horse manager Adrian Musgrave. “They seemed to be struggling for a side and went down to ten men later in the game, but were coasting by then and we probably should have scored more goals. Our strikers have scored seven goals between them, and they have should have had double that! Having said that, I regretted telling the lads at half-time, when it was 3-0, that I’d buy them all a pint if they scored ten – turned out to be an expensive day!”
Elsewhere in Division One last week, Eldon Arms won 4-1 at home to Penny Gill with a brace apiece by Andrew Sams and David Leary.
Tudhoe United were also home winners, 5-3 over Binchester Social Club, thanks to goals by Billy McClacklan (2), Alan Barratt (2) and Paul Leadbetter. Leigh Lamb, Lee Furber and Paul Foster scored Binny’s goals.
Meanwhile, Hunwick Joiners shocked league-leaders Thorns to dump them out of the Division One Cup semi-finals with a 5-1 win. See the latest Game of the Week feature.
In the other game, Masons Arms raced into a two-goal lead inside the first ten minutes through Tom Fothergill and Michael Barrass.
Marc De Lucia pulled one back before Barrass netted his second mid-way through the second half.
“We were cruising in the first half of the opening half but they came back into it,” said Masons’ Anthony Warnett. “The second half was a lot more even and I thought the third goal killed them off. But it was a good result for us and it’s nice to book at least one final.”
Lakeside manager Stuart Hodgson said: “We started very slowly and after the first ten minutes I thought we were in for a stuffing. But credit to the lads, they showed great character and battled back, and we were the better side for the last 20 minutes of the first half. The second half was very tight and a fortunate third goal to clinch it, but I was pleased with the way we battled all day and never gave up.”
Horndale Celtic eventually progressed to the semi-finals of the Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup after beating the North Briton on penalties in the quarters.
The sides drew 5-5 after normal and extra-time. Graham Carling (4) and Scott Mason scored for Horndale, with XXX. Horndale clinched shoot-out 5-4.
In the other quarter-final tie, Quinns beat Victoria 7-1 with goals by Dean Grayson (3), Chris Hodgson (3) and David Parker. John Templeton scored for the Vic.
The semi-finals, to be played on Sunday 5th March, consist of Belvedere v Horndale Celtic and Green Tree v Quinns.
