Cup kick for the Vic Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
DIVISION TWO side Victoria booked a B&A Trophy semi-final clash with Quinns with a workmanlike win over Division One side Lakeside.
Lakeside had taken the lead after a bright start and a goal by Marc De Lucia, but Victoria bounced back instantly and raced into a 4-1 half-time lead with two goals each by James Smith and Jason Greenland.
It was enough to deflate the home side, although another goal by De Lucia plus a third by Dale Nelson and some sustained pressure wasn’t enough to claw it back.
Lakeside manager Stuart Hodgson said: “We started the game very brightly and took a deserved lead, but then we had a 20 minute spell where we just committed too many schoolboy errors and gave them three goals.
“Fair play to Victoria, they put us under pressure to make these mistakes. And at 4-1 down it was always going to make the second half hard. I thought we were going to pull it off but some resolute defending by Victoria meant they hung on. We got what we deserved for that lax 20-minute spell, and hopefully we will be able to pull ourselves back together for the remainder of the season.”
In the other quarter-final tie last week, Quinns won 3-0 at Old Shildon to book a semi-final tie against Victoria. Ryan Kitely, Paul English and David Parker scored the goals.
Meanwhile, Masons Arms won a clash of the titans as Thorns crashed out of the B&A Trophy Final on penalties. See the latest Game of the Week feature for more details and action pictures.
