Thompson six for upbeat Castle
Division Three round-up

CASTLE bagged their sixth league win of the season at Horndale Celtic to stay within touching distance of the top three.

Castle, dented by a couple of defeats lately, bounced back with an 8-3 win at Horndale Celtic.

Prolific top scorer Paul Thompson boosted his goal tally yet further with six goals, while Leigh Lamb and Daniel Pattinson also chipped in with a goal apiece.

Boss Peter Baker said: “Both sides did well considering the conditions – it wasn’t a day when any good football could be played. We made hard work of it but got the result in the end.”

Michael Watson, Andy Craig and Trevor Dixon scored Horndale’s goals.

Meanwhile, Shildon Fox continued their drive towards the title with an emphatic 10-2 win at EBAC.

In the Fox’s biggest win of the season so far, Stephen Hall bagged five goals while Michael Roberts netted a hat-trick. Robbie Appleby and Ross Brown were also on the scoresheet.

Craig Ellison and Mark Owen were on target for EBAC.

Aycliffe Village, meanwhile, maintained their relentless pressure on Fox with another win – albeit a struggle over neighbours the Navy Club.

Wayne Marram netted the first only for Navy to draw level through Chris Small.

Marram nudged Aycliffe ahead again but Dave Bush drew Navy level again.

Marc Addy put the home side 3-2 up and then substitute Kieran Megran added a fourth to complete a scrappy win.

Ricky Weathestone, Sean Redpath, Adam Redhead and Graham Blenkinsopp scored for the Southerne Club as they drew 4-4 at home to Masons United.
