North Briton are up and running Division One round-up
NORTH BRITON kick-started their season with their first win of the campaign at Voltigeur.
The game started with little between the two sides, until after 20 minutes when Marc De Lucia opened the scoring for the Brit.
Voltigeur equalised just five minutes later through Ian Johnson, only for the visitors to regain the lead minutes later through Paul Barnes.
The Brit added a third just before half-time, with De Lucia grabbing his second goal of the game, but the Volti came out strong after the re-start and pressured the Brit, who defended well to maintain their lead.
They then added a fourth against the run of play, with Barnes getting his second goal, before Andy Clay got on the scoresheet to make it 5-1. De Lucia completed his hat-trick before Volti rallied and grabbed one back, Johnson netting his second.
But the Brit made sure of the spoils with a fourth by De Lucia and then Andy Kay completed the scoring with the eighth.
“I was pleased with our performance,” said Brit boss Stuart Hodgson. “We started brightly and kept our heads, with some good crack out on the pitch, so hopefully this will kick-start our season. But credit also to the Volti, who never gave up and kept battling to the end.”
Meanwhile, Thorns won 1-0 at Quinns with an Anthony Stewart goal, while Masons Arms won 5-1 at Tudhoe United thanks to goals by Kevin Dodds (2), Liam McRoy (2) and an own goal. Paul Cantwell scored for Tudhoe.
