Striker Thompson the king of Castle
Division Three round-up

BISHOP side Castle boosted their goal difference no end with an emphatic win over Horndale Celtic.

Castle have dropped points after losing two games but are hoping to stay in the promotion race at the top of Division Three.

And they bolstered their goal difference with a 17-1 win at home to Horndale, with striker Paul Thompson netting no less than eight goals.

Adam Sullivan also bagged a hat-trick, while Daniel Pattinson scored two. There was also one goal each from Kevin McMullan, Mark Gibbons, Andrew Beamson and Leigh Lamb.

Castle manager Peter Barker said: “The Horndale lads are a credit to the league. The effort they put in right to end was unbelievable, considering the scoreline. Obviously I was more than happy with our performance – we are starting to look more of a unit. Hopefully we can still challenge for promotion this year and we’ll be there or thereabouts come May.” Mel Nichols netted Horndale’s consolation.

Meanwhile, Aycliffe Village eventually won 6-2 at EBAC after a closely-fought first half. Wayne Marram opened the scoring inside a minute before Craig Ellison drew EBAC level.

Morgan Fielding then nudged Aycliffe ahead before Mark Owen grabbed EBAC’s second equaliser, only for Darren Griffiths to make it 3-2 at half-time.

Fielding netted twice in the second half, along with Shaun Sproates once, to complete the win.

Steven Walton and Glyn Porter scored for Fox and Hounds as they won 2-1 at the Southerne Club. Lee Marshall scored for the Southerne.

Shildon Fox won 6-1 at the Navy Club with goals by Michael Roberts (4), Michael Lumley and Darren Foster.
