Quinns clinch First Division trophy Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
QUINNS lifted the Division One Cup with a 2-0 win over the North Briton at Coxhoe last week.
The Division One runners-up were made to work for their victory, though, and only a couple of spourned half-chances by the Brit allowed Craig Parker to put Quinns 1-0 up by half-time.
They then dominated the second half and David Parker added a second, although the Brit rallied towards the end.
Quinns boss Steve Jackson said: “It was all them in the first 20 minutes and I think we were lucky to have taken the lead. They had a couple of chances and maybe should have done better with them, but we were able to take one chance before half-time and I think we were the better team in the second half, although they came back at us in the last 10 minutes.
“It was great to win a trophy, especially having lost the league title to Masons Arms. We also have the Heart Foundation Final this Sunday so it would be great to round the season off with two trophies.”
Brit manager Stuart Hodgson said: “I thought we played really well and were a bit unlucky in the way game went. Quinns weathered our early storm but we kept on working hard to get something, especially as I think most people thought it was going to be a one-sided game.
“Obviously we were really disappointed that we didn't win but I’m proud of the lads for their work-rate and commitment in the full 90 minutes. Hopefully this can set us up nicely for next season.”
