ATLANTIC BAR STUN LEADERS VIC
Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League
ATLANTIC BAR surprised Division Two leaders Victoria last week when they held them to a 3-3 draw.
There were few league games due to the first preliminary round of the Durham County Sunday Cup.
But the Vic stumbled against Atlantic, who picked up their second point of the season with the six-goal stalemate.
Trevor Dixon, Bryan McCourt and Mike Brough were on target for Atlantic as they appear to be turning the corner.
Secretary Matthew Robinson said: “It was the best we’ve played for a while. We struggled a bit last season, but we’ve brought in some new players in the summer and they’re starting to play well. I think it was a fair result.”
Kevin Brown, James Smith and Gary Scott scored for the Vic, and their Secretary Marcus Jayne admitted: “It was a fair result. I felt that we didn’t perform to the standard we have been this season, although a mid-week defeat against Binchester Social Club probably took something out of us.”
Meanwhile, Eldon Arms won 4-3 at Gainford in the only other Second Division game last week, while the Division Two Cup round one game between Ash Tree and Cumby Arms was postponed.
Tudhoe United were the only side to progress in the cups, when they joined the second round of the Division One Cup thanks to a 8-0 win over Postchaise.
Carl Wilson grabbed four for Tudhoe, with Billy McClacklin (3) and Christian Schofield getting the others. The round one game between Browney and Thorns was postponed.
Old Shildon beat Horndale 2-1 in the only Division One league game, with Paul Whensley getting both Shildon goals. Dale Anderson was on the scoresheet for Horndale.
• The next league meeting will take place at Belvedere WMC in Bishop Auckland on Wednesday 29th September 2004.
