Horse suffer second half collapse
League Cup Round One

FIRST Division side Bay Horse suffered a second-half collapse as Division Three side EBAC knocked them out of the League Cup.

EBAC had a slender one-goal advantage at the break after Graham Atkinson gave the home side the lead against the run of play – Bay Horse had enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes.

But they collapsed after the break and four goals in the space of 15 minutes killed them off.

Stuart Boddy grabbed two goals and Gareth Hodgson one before Boddy completed his hat-trick.

Hodgson netted his second to make it 6-1 before Darren Scott pulled a consolation goal back for the Horse.

But EBAC piled the misery on for the visitors with further goals by Boddy, his fourth of the game, and Craig Ellison.

Gareth Hodgson said: “We couldn’t quite believe it. We expected a difficult game and they were giving us just that in the first half, but as soon as we got the second goal they just went to pieces and couldn’t cope.

“We had a few players missing but they also had a few players out, but it was still surprising to win so easily.”

Meanwhile, Division Three side Castle beat Division Two side Penny Gill 3-1 with goals by Paul Thompson (2) and Mark Thompson.

North Briton won 6-2 at Horndale Celtic with two goals each by Marc De Lucia, Andy Kay and Steve Hepples. Steve Watson got both goals for Horndale.

Tudhoe United won 6-0 at home to Eldon Arms thanks to four goals by Allan Barratt. Arron McGarr and Paul Leadbitter were also on the scoresheet.

Thorns won 3-1 at Browney with goals by Clive Underwood (2) and Michael Oliver. Stuart Kitching scored for Browney.

Hogans won 2-1 at Voltigeur thanks to a Dean Cummins brace. Ian Johnson scored for the Volti.

Shildon Athletic won 2-1 at home to Victoria with goals by Paul Gargett and Stuart Doughty, while Hunwick Joiners won 9-1 at home to Masons United with goals by Wayne Fleming (3), Andrew Howard (3), Ash Coveney (2) and Chris Pratt.

Aycliffe Village beat Belvedere 6-2 thanks to a hat-trick by Shaun Sproates. Garry Donald, Chris Airey and Martin Walker also scored for Aycliffe. Lee Nixon and Jonathan Millward scored for Belvedere. Croxdale won 6-1 at home to Binchester Social Club.
