NEW BOYS CELTIC ARE OFF THE MARK

HORNDALE Celtic recorded their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw at Atlantic Bar.
Scott Mason scored twice to give Horndale 2-0 half-time lead, but Atlantic came out fighting in the second half and drew level with a brace by Phil Lamb.
Michael Bainbridge then scored to give Atlantic the lead before Paul Hughes scored an equaliser for Horndale, whose delighted Secretary Karen Hodgson said: “The lads were over the moon with their first point!
“The 21-0 drubbing a week before seems to have given everyone a kick up the backside and now we’re starting to show signs of playing like a team.
“It’s great to get our first point and we can hopefully take that forward and move on now.”
Atlantic’s Steven Haigh said: “We were disappointed after taking the lead in the second half to eventually draw, but we have more points now than we did from the whole of last season so we’ve got to be happy with that at this stage of the season.”
Horndale Secretary Karen would also like to thank Division One club Old Shildon, who gifted Horndale with a second-hand strip free of charge.
Meanwhile, Victoria beat the Southern Club 8-1 with goals by James Smith (2), John Temple (2), Marc Nelson, Jason Greenland, Gary Scott and an own goal.
Secretary Marcus Jayne said: “It was another decent performance by the lads and we’re pleased with the way things are going for us at the moment.”
Elsewhere, Quinns were 8-0 winners at New Brancepeth (see Game of the Week feature).
In Division One last week, Tudhoe United almost squandered a four-goal half-time lead when they allowed home side Browney back into it.
Allan Barratt, Paul Leadbitter, Billy McClacklen and Christian Schofield all scored to give Tudhoe their comfortable lead at the break.
But goals by Michael Ondongo and Jason King ensured a nervy finish for Tudhoe, who have dropped just two points so far this season.
James Curley said: “It’s going really well. We scored four in the first half last week and looked good, but didn’t really come out for the second half and it was a bit shaky at times, but it was good to hold on for another win.”
• All clubs will be given their annual quota of raffle tickets to sell for this year’s Christmas Prize Draw at the next league meeting in October.
The league will again ask all clubs to sell a minimum of £50-worth of tickets, with the club taking a 50% commission of sales.
But clubs will also be able to take additional tickets when they are dished out at the next meeting on Wednesday 5th October.
• The league plan to hold a Christmas Party this year, when the draw will be made, at a separate location to the December meeting, with tickets for sale and entertainment and food on the night. More details will be issued at a later date.
