BINNY THROUGH TO FINAL Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League BINCHESTER Social Club qualified for their second cup final of the season with a hard-fought win over Tudhoe United. Binny booked themselves a League Cup Final clash with Division One championship-chasers Hunwick Joiners or Masons Arms after seeing off Tudhoe United 4-3 the semi-finals last Sunday. Lee Furber scored three and Chris Pickles one to guarantee their passage, with David Hugill, Christian Schofield and Michael Lee scoring Tudhoe’s goals. Binchester already have a final with Victoria in the Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup. In the quarter-finals of the competition, Hunwick came from three goals down to clinch a semi-final tie with Masons after extra-time last Sunday. Croxdale had led them 3-0 at half-time through a Phil Wilkinson hat-trick, but Stephen Howe started the fightback with a goal after the break Sean Brown and Chris Race drew level for Thorns, before Howe grabbed the all-important winner in the first half of extra-time. In Division One last week, Horndale continued their winning streak with a 3-1 triumph at Browney. Mark Buckley, Dale Anderson and Tony Stebbings were on target for Horndale, while Peter Boucher scored Browney’s goal. Bottom-of-the-table Voltigeur grabbed a rare win with a 3-2 victory over Lakeside, David Potts, Wayne Johnson and Sean Moore scoring the goals. Ryan Heathwaite and Dale Nelson scored for Lakeside. In Division Two, Shildon Athletic won 5-4 at North Briton thanks to four goals by Jamie Scaife and one from Chris Ross. Gary Donald (3) and Paul Middleton scored for the Brit. Green Tree won 6-2 at Cumby Arms with goals by Darren Dye (4), Paul Shaw and Jonathan Millward. Mark Silvester and Tim Leadbitter scored for Cumby.
• The dates for the league’s four cup finals at Spennymoor United’s Brewery Field are scheduled to take place late April-May. The Kelvin McIntosh Division Two Cup Final between Binchester Social Club and Victoria will be played on Friday 29th April, kicking off at 6.30pm. The Division One Cup between Thorns and Hunwick Joiners will go ahead on Monday Bank Holiday, 2nd May, with a 10.30am kick-off. The B&A Trophy Final between Thorns and Hunwick will take place on Sunday 8th May (10.30am kick-off) and the last cup – the League Cup Final – will kick-off at 10.30am on Sunday 15th May. • The league’s next league meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th May at Hodan’s in Bishop Auckland. • The league’s end-of-season presentation night will be held at Old Shildon WMC on Friday 27th May, 2005.
