MASONS CLINCH SHOCK DOUBLE Jackson Anderson Accountants Spennymoor Sunday League SECOND Division side Masons Arms clinched a shock cup double when they lifted the B&A Trophy last week. Masons, who had already bagged the Second Division Cup with a 1-0 win over Voltigeur a week before, were deserved winners over First Division side Old Shildon. John Nicholson, Steven Fothergill, Justin Fox and Peter Kerr (penalty) were on target to give them their cup double. “We’re over the moon!” said manager Peter Richardson. “We were surprised with Old Shildon – they didn’t seem to be up for it on the day and we were. We expected a much harder game but it’s great to have won. “It also gives us a good indication that we should be able to hold our own in the First Division next season.” John Poulter and a Darren Place penalty restored the deficit, but it was too little too late for Old Shildon. “It was very disappointing,” said Dave Hedley. “It’s three finals we’ve lost, including the Daryl Stobbs Trophy, and we’ve finished third in the league, so it’s frustrating to finish the season with nothing after working so hard.” Meanwhile, the League Cup Final between Thorns and Loves will be played at Brewery Field this Sunday (May 9) 10.30am kick-off. • The final league tables will be published in next week’s local heroes. • The next league meeting will be the AGM, held at the Beehive on Wednesday 9th June. • The league’s end-of-season presentation night will be held at Old Shildon WMC on Friday June 5th. Teams are reminded that they must inform the league of how many tickets they require ASAP, unless they haven’t already (contact Martin Walker on 07949 840232). • Visit our site at: www.spenny-league.co.uk RESULTS Tuesday May 5 Division Two: Hunwick 8, Cumby Arms 2.
