Fox save face with late goal glut Division Three round-up
SHILDON Fox and Hounds were pushed all the way by a battling Navy Club despite a flattering scoreline in Division Three.
The league-leaders – who face their arch rivals Aycliffe Village this Sunday in a top-of-the-table showdown – raced into a three-goal lead against fourth-from-bottom Navy with two goals by Michael Roberts and one by Jamie Martin.
But the Navy clawed the game back with 15 minutes to spare after two goals by Wayne Pratt gave them an unlikely lifeline.
However, Roberts netted his third to all-but clinch it before a Steven Hall goal and an OG made it look comfortable in the end.
Fox boss Dave Owens admitted: “It wasn’t as straight-forward as it looks! I suppose it was comfortable at the end, but at 3-2 with 15 minutes left it got a bit edgy!
“The title race should probably be between ourselves and Aycliffe now, which makes this Sunday’s game all the more interesting.”
Meanwhile, Craig Ellison was on target twice for EBAC as they held Fox and Hounds to a 3-3 draw. Mark Owen also scored for the home side, while Stuart Rand, Steven Walton and Mark Surtees scored for the Fox.
