Southerne edge Aycliffe derby
Division Three
SOUTHERNE CLUB edged their Division Three Aycliffe derby clash with Horndale Celtic.
Alan Stewart, Scott Hudson and Lee Marshall were all on target for the Southerne as they chalked their first league win of the season.
“A win’s a win,” admitted boss Brian Redpath. “But it wasn’t the best of performances by us. We had loads of chances and, after hitting the crossbar and the post in the first half, should have been leading comfortably. But we didn’t take those chances and we let them back into the game. We were hanging on for the win in the end – but then I suppose we can’t complain with three points!”
Elsewhere, Navy Club won a nine-goal battle with new side EBAC, eventually finishing 5-4 winners with goals by Mark Silvester (3), Craig Leadbitter and Wayne Pratt.
Navy boss Ronnie Hewitson said: “It was some game! They lost their heads a bit in the second half and we capitalised on that, but it was pleasing to just get the win. We’ve got the players to make a good side, we just haven’t clicked yet – so hopefully that will start from now.”
Damon Askew (2), Graham Atkinson and Craig Pattinson were on target for EBAC.
