Belvedere clinch close Shildon clash
Division Two round-up

BELVEDERE clung on to three points with a grinding home win over mid-table rivals Shildon Athletic.

Belvedere leap-frogged Shildon in the table to fourth with the win, although having played two more games.

Lee Nixon put the home side 1-0 before half-time, and then second-half goals by substitutes Chris Young and Karl Thompson put Belvedere well in the driving seat.

However, Jamie Scaife pulled one back for Shildon from the penalty spot before Craig Mallon grabbed a quick second to set-up a close finish.

“I thought they were going to pull it back,” admitted Belvedere boss Karl Thompson. “They will probably disappointed that they didn’t. they weren’t themselves and I was surprised to have taken a 3-0 lead, but they nearly drew level at the end so it was a good result for us.”

Elsewhere in Division Two, Browney won 3-2 at home to Green Tree with goals by Andrew Nicholson (2) and Karl Turner. Martin Hutchinson and Wayne Dobinson scored for the Green Tree.

Paul Welsh was on target for Hogans as they drew 1-1 at home to Victoria, who had Jason Greenland on the scoresheet.

New Brancepeth and Eldon Arms played out a 2-2 draw. Craig Hindmarch and Michael Gibbins scored for Brancepeth, while David Hall and Liam Gilles were on target for Eldon.
